Patrik Lemberg's
comments on "The Next Time You'll Come To Town"
This song has no mikseri comments, since the
recording was finished in
early September 2003, so I thought I'd add some
commentary myself.
Before we started
recording this song we had not yet played it with full line-up.
This is the
case with most of these recordings. 'FFF Wizard',
e.g., was
recorded
during our first rehearsal, before some of the members had even met.
Bass and
drums were recorded for `Next Time' early in the summer, vocals
and
trumpet were added a month later, and in September KeBu
found time to
record
Rhodes and synthesizer in order to mix the song.
The song
has developed into a longer and longer jam every time we have played it.
It usually
lasts around ten minutes when we play it live because of (or thanks to)
extended
solo lengths (solo-turns often end with 'fours' between me and Kenneth).
This
particular song is starting to work better every time we play it live, as opposed
to this early version, since there are no musical limits of exploration for one who solos
upon a simple one-chorded groove, which the song now features.
To me this
recording is just a taste of what the song can be (and should be).
